AUTHOR BIOGRAPHY Matt Groening (sounds like raining) has worked as a sewage treatment plant employee, chauffer, cartoonist, ghostwriter, and creator of the television series The Simpsons, for which he is best known. The Life in Hell books are compilations of his comic strip of the same name, which has, since its beginnings in 1977, been syndicated by over 250 newspapers. In 1990, The Simpsons, which began as a series of short cartoons featured on The Tracy Ullman Show debuted on the Fox network and became their highest-rated show. Futurama followed, debuting in 1999. THE BOOKS "Matt Groening is the rambunctious, unpredictable, taboo-defying alternative cartoonist who makes Garry Trudeau's 'Doonesbury' seem, by comparison, reminiscent of 'Mary Worth'." --Los Angeles Times
