BIOGRAPHY WITH CYBER FOOTNOTES
Born in Santa Fe (1), New Mexico during the "crossfire
hurricane" (2) year of 1968 (3), Mitch Cullin is the
author of seven acclaimed books, including the
novel-in-verse Branches, The Cosmology of Bing,
UnderSurface, and the globe-spanning story collection
From the Place in the Valley Deep in the Forest (4).
His lastest effort, A Slight Trick of the Mind (5), is
under option from the Focus Features/This Is That
production team (6) that made The Ice Storm, American
Splendor, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The
Door in the Floor, with a screenplay adaptation by
playwright Jeffrey Hatcher (7). The film version of
his novel Tideland (8) was directed by former Monty
Pythoner Terry Gilliam (9), produced by Jeremy Thomas
(10), and starring Jeff Bridges (11), Janet McTeer
(12), and Jennifer Tilly (13). Several of his books
are also available or forthcoming in international
editions from England, Japan, The Netherlands, Italy,
and Greece (14).
With his writing described by the New York Times (15)
as "brilliant and beautiful... rhythmic and telling,"
he has also been the recipient of many awards and
honors, including a Dodge Jones Foundation grant;
writing sponsorship from Recursos De Santa Fe (16);
the Stony Brook Short Fiction Prize (17); a poetry
fellowship from The Arizona Commission on the Arts
(18); and a nomination for inclusion in the American
Library Association's Notable Book List, 1999. (19)
Besides slowly loosing his hair (20) and writing
novels in increasingly smaller and expensive
apartments throughout southwestern America (21), he is
an avid follower of Asian cinema (22), and, when
donning his Bloodshot Records baseball cap (23), has
cast himself as the official unofficial spokesman for
Howe Gelb's legendary Tucson-based band Giant Sand
(24). At the moment he currently resides in Arcadia,
California (25), where he continues to collaborate in
all things with the artist Peter I. Chang (26).
