Peter I. Chang was born in 1973 in Taipei, Taiwan, to
a Chinese father and a Japanese mother. At the age of
twelve he moved to Los Angeles with his family.
After receiving his degree from California State
Polytechnic University, Pomona he has since
participated in numerous exhibitions such as the NEA
sponsored annual art event, Artoconecto 2001: Lust and
Revenge in the Year of the Snake, (Josephine Butler
Center, Washington D.C.) and Santa Fe Film Festival
2001's benefit exhibition, Reflex: Artists'
Reflections on Cinema (Chiaroscuro Gallery, Santa Fe,
NM). Most recently his works were included in the
Rocky Mountain Biennial 2002 at the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Fort Collins, Colorado, and his
photo essay was featured in the January 2002 issue of
New Mexico Magazine's "Impermanence in the Land of
Enchantment: Tibetan Perspectives from Northern New
Mexico."
Since 1999, he has collaborated on several projects
with Mitch Cullin, including The House of Special
Purpose, the novel UnderSurface, and the
still-evolving The Twenty-Five Cent Mechanical Horse.
Putting his brushes and paints on the backburner for a
while, he is currently directing a documentary about
the L.A. street musician Hisao Shinagawa.
