Tony Soprano's Shish Kebab

This might very well be the only post on the internet right now about "The Sopranos" that has nothing to do with the ending.

Like a great deal of the rest of the country with access to cable, several of us in the office watched the final episode of "The Sopranos" last night, and had the obligatory water cooler discussion this morning.

The one thing that got our ears all perked up? When A.J. Soprano decides to spend $200 on an Arabic course, Tony responds by saying "Shish kebab — what else do you need to know?"

All due respect, Mr. Soprano, but shish kebab is actually Turkish. The word kabab is Arabic in origin, referring to fried meat, but şiş kebap came about when the Turks put it on a şiş, or "skewer" and started grilling or roasting the meat instead of frying it.

It turned out not to matter, as — how do you say "spoiler" in Arabic? — A.J. decided to try his hand at producing B-movies instead. (SUZANNE)
