Great Horned Owl
Bubo virginianus
Owl Family
L 23"; WS 4'7". Dark brown with black spots above; underparts pale brown with heavy, dark brown bars; dark streaks on upper chest; facial disks rich rusty brown, ringed in black. Head large; eyes yellow; fluffy ear tufts. Largest common NW owl. Voice5-8 deep hoots, 2nd and 3rd rapid and doubled. Habitat Forests, riverine woodlands, cliffs in sagebrush deserts, towns. Range Resident in NW.
