Archosargus probatocephalus
Porgy Family
24 - 36". Head profile very steep; broad incisor teeth protrude. Iridescent silvery with 5 - 7 vertical bars. Dorsal fin continuous; rays of dorsal and anal fins have stout sharp spines; tail fin forked. Usually a solitary, wary bottom dweller. Habitat: Muddy shallows, under piers. Range: Entire coast, southern Chesapeake Bay.
