After creating fascinating books and documentary films together about famous American expeditions, Dayton Duncan posed the idea to his partner Ken Burns of writing about Horatio Nelson Jackson, the first man to drive across the country. The result is Horatio's Drive. Duncan and Burns retraced Jackson's trip, and uncovered a treasure trove of previously unexplored materials.
Here, you can view an interactive map of the journey, and get an idea of what the book includes, from Horatio's letters home to wife Bertha to pictures of their mascot, a dog named Bud.
