First Reads Program Rules
1. To be eligible to win, you must submit the entry form located at www.firstreads.com. Entries must be completed in their entirety and received by 11:59 pm Eastern time on December 11, 2005. Only one entry per person. Knopf is not responsible for lost, interrupted, garbled or jumbled entries or transmissions, or unavailable network, server, or other connections, or other errors of any kind, whether human, mechanical or electronic.
2. One hundred entrants chosen at random from the eligible entries will be declared the winners and will receive an advanced reader's edition of Arthur and George by Julian Barnes, The Amalgamation Polka by Stephen Wright, Challenger Park by Stephen Harrigan, The Good Life by Jay McInerney, or Suite Francaise by Irene Nemirovsky at our sole discretion. (approximate retail value less than $35.00). The advanced reader editions are for the recipient's own personal use and may not be sold.
3. Winners will be chosen by Alfred A. Knopf , a division of Random House, Inc. ("Knopf"), whose decisions are final on all matters related to this contest. The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. Winners will be notified by email on or before December 20, 2005.
4. This contest is only open to residents of the United States over the age of 18. Employees and family members of employees of Random House Inc., including its affiliates and subsidiaries are not eligible to enter. This contest is subject to all federal, state, and local regulations. Random House Inc. will not be responsible for payment of taxes on the value of any prize awarded hereunder.
5. By entering, entrants agree to abide by these rules and the decisions of Knopf, and release Knopf, its parent companies, subsidiaries, affiliates, suppliers and agents from any and all liability for injuries, losses, or damages of any kind caused by participation in the contest or the acceptance, possession, or use/misuse of a prize. All entries become the property of Knopf, and will not be acknowledged or returned.
6. Entering the contest constitutes consent to the use of the winners' names and entries for publicity and promotional purposes on behalf of (in Knopf's sole discretion) and with no additional compensation or further permission (except where prohibited by law).
7. The winners understand that they will receive a subsequent email requesting their thoughts on the title they receive. Winners have no obligation to respond to the request. Any responses to that request received by Knopf are the property of Knopf and will not be returned, and Knopf will have the right to use such responses, along with the name of the respondent, for publicity and promotional purposes in Knopf's sole discretion, including without limitation on Knopf's website, without compensation (except where prohibited by law). Knopf reserves the right to use only portions of the responses, and/or to edit the responses for clarity.
