Play color and counting games with your child!

Learning Colors

  • Make a rainbow with colored chalk. Then ask your child to jump on blue, hop on yellow, and clap on green. Turn it into a sort of "Simon Says" game. This is a fun way of getting young children to learn their colors.
  • As you read books with your child, ask them questions like, "Where are the red shoes?" and "Can you point to the blue car?"

My Many Colored Days will spark discussions on how different colors evoke different moods. Have your child share their favorite color with you. Ask your child to explain how that color makes them feel.

Learning Numbers

  • Make number challenges a part of the day’s activities. Ask your toddler to count up to five before coming out of the bath, or to count
  • down from five before snack time. Offer praise and encouragement.
  • Sing counting songs throughout the day, such as "Ten Little Indians."

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish will not only delight readers, but it will help them to identify colors. It offers young children a chance to learn numbers and to count in zany ways.
