Step 1

Take turns with the person you are reading with by saying a word and then trying to find a rhyme. You should also make a list of important words (mom, dad, dog, cat…) and look for them in every book you read!

Step 2

When you read aloud, use different voices for each character and make it fun.

Step 3

After reading the story, retell it to someone in your house and “act out” your favorite part.

Step 4

Before you begin reading the story, look at the front and back cover and write down predictions about what you think the book will be about. You can also read the story and then “re-write” the ending wherever your imagination leads you.

Step 5

Choose a character in the book you are reading who is most like you and write about why you think you are alike. Or write about a character in the book you feel would make a great friend and why.
