In Visions, Michio Kaku examines the great scientific revolutions that have reshaped the 20th century-quantum mechanics, biogenetics, and artificial intelligence-and shows how they will change science and society in the 21st century. In Section I, Kaku explores the evolution and development of computers and artificial intelligence, and offers a theory about how computer science will evolve. In Section II, he discusses biogenetics and ponders how the completion of the human genome project will affect humankind's war against disease and aging. Section III explores how quantum physicists are perfecting new ways to harness the matter and energy of the universe.

Michio Kaku is professor of theoretical physics at the City College of the City University of New York. He graduated from Harvard and received his Ph.D. from Berkeley. He is cofounder of string field theory, has written eight books, and has published more than seventy scientific papers on superstrings, supergravity, and nuclear physics. He is the author of the widely acclaimed Hyperspace: A Scientific Odyssey Through Parallel Universes, Time Warps, and the 10th Dimension, which both the New York Times and the Washington Post selected as one of the best science books of the year.
