Meet Cathie Black, New York City Schools Chancellor
Last month, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced his choice for the new chancellor of the city's schools: former Hearst magazine executive Cathie Black. Ms. Black said that she is "very excited about this incredible opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our young people." As New York City Schools Chancellor, she will be leading the nation's largest public school system, comprised of approximately 1.1 million students and 80,000 teachers from more than 1,400 schools. Named one of the "100 Most Powerful Women" by Forbes and "50 Most Powerful Women in Business" by Fortune, she is also the author of Basic Black: The Essential Guide for Getting Ahead at Work (and in Life), a bestselling career manual that draws on her four decades of experience in the media industry.
