Cat Profile Six: Dinah

Of: New York City

Favorite Human: Ellen Datlow

Other favorite friend: Big Teddy

Favorite activity: Nesting in mom's hair

Favorite Food: Lamb chops, bacon, and asparagus, and "Any human food I can get my claws into."

Most Recent Accomplishment: Scaling the great height of the top of the bedroom door.

Motto: "It it's there, I'll climb it."

WHY DINAH LIKED THE WILD ROAD: I was sooo jealous of Tag and his adventures. I wanted to go out and have adventures of my own, but mom wouldn't let me so instead I took a nap.

Cat Profile Seven: Samantha

Of: Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada

Breed: Japanese Bobtail X

Favorite Humans: Marie, Arianna, Alynda and John Sebo

Favorite Food: Corn on the cob!

Most Recent Accomplishment: I come when my humans call me and I jump and catch Tartar control treats from my humans' hands.

Motto: "Hail, the litter critter!"

WHY SAMANTHA LIKED THE WILD ROAD: The book gives a glimpse into the wonderfully complex and fascinating secret life of the everyday cat.

Cat Profile Eight: Keno

Of: Las Vegas, Nevada

Favorite Humans: Lou and Susan Reitz (who are far from dulls!) and Godmother Ellie Miller

Favorite Food: Whatever someone else is eating

Most Recent Accomplishment: Developing a successful division of territory and modus vivendi between myself and the two oversized canine creatures who perforce share my quarters: making friends with Rowdy, the Doberman, reminded me vividly of Tag's experiences with Loves-A-Dustbin.

Motto: "When in doubt, wash!"

WHY KENO LIKED THE WILD ROAD: A kitten trying to make his way in the world desperately needs appropriate role models, and Tag and his friends have now become my purrsonal heroes. This marvelous account of their adventures, courage and the love that they shared as they traveled the Wild Roads together has inspired me to dedicate my own life to following their shining example.

Cat Profile Nine: Grace

Of: New York City and Bridgehampton, NY

Favorite Human: Greg Costikyan

Favorite Food: Fresh mouse or mole, when in season. When unavailable, lamb, roast beef or anything else daddy makes will do.

Most Recent Accomplishment: Bringing my people food through the cat flap, including a big rat which I left for grandpa on his office chair.

Motto: "High places are better."

WHY GRACE LIKED THE WILD ROAD: Gabriel King captured the essence of the relationship between a cat and Outside. It made me proud to be a feline. Also, it was nice to sit on.

Cat Profile Ten: Hayes

Of: New York City

Favorite Human: Ellie Lang, but thinks all guests have come to see him

Favorite Food: Bagels, whole-wheat bread, and macaroni and cheese

Most Recent Accomplishment: Improved mommy's black suit jacket by creating a furry texture.

Motto: "Paté is better than cat food."

WHY HAYES LIKED THE WILD ROAD: Great characterization, fast-paced storyline, and a cat on the cover--what more could a kitty want? Plus, The Wild Road is filled with great practical advice, too.

Hayes and his brother Norton were named after people. Anyone who can correctly guess who they're named for will win a free copy of The Wild Road. Send your best guess to Eleanor Lang, Del Rey Publicist, at elang@randomhouse.com.
