Code name for the 1950s U.S. Air Force reconnaissance program, which used balloons to photograph targets in the Soviet Union. Of a reported 287 camera-carrying balloons launched from Europe, only 44 were recovered in the Pacific; the others were never seen again. Earlier code names for this project were Gopher, Grandson, and Grayback.
