Life
in Publishing:
- Started
as an editor at Bantam Books in 1974.
- In
1978 was made Executive Editor and started Bantams hardcover
line (now one of the most successful hardcover imprints in the
publishing business) as well as Perigord Press, a hard/soft imprint
between Bantam and William Morrow.
- In
1980, went to Random House as Executive Editor.
- In
1983, founded Villard Books and was Publisher and Editor-in-Chief
for eight years. Villard was the first start-up company for Random
House, Inc., founded by Bennett Cerf.

In 1991, resigned and created new position as Vice President,
Editor-at-Large, Random House, Inc. imprints which include Random
House, Alfred A. Knopf, Crown, Doubleday, Pantheon, Vintage, Ballantine,
Bantam and many more.
- Among
the many authors edited and/or published: Henry Beard, Roy Blount,
Jr., Vincent Bugliosi, Nicholas Gage, Lorenzo Carcaterra, Jimmy

starring Jane Curtin and Stephen Collins.
- Co-Creator
and Co-Executive Producer of the first run syndication hour action
show, Lands End, starring Ed Dryer.
- Has
written many pilots and television movies, working for every major
network and producers such as Grant Tinker, Bill Persky, and Sonny
Grosso.
Life
in Feature Films:
- Script
doctor for Frantic, directed by Roman Polanski, starring
Harrison Ford.
- Wrote
The Master and Margarita with Roman Polanski, as yet unproduced.
- Has
written original scripts for every major studio and have written
for such producers/directors as Rob Reiner, William Goldman, Garry
Marshall and Peter Bart.
- Just
finished a new original screenplay for Miramax called The Alibi
Guy.

As
a book author, Gethers has published the following titles under
the name Peter Gethers, and using his pseudonym, Russell Andrews:

Personal
Life:
Peter
Gethers was born in New York City. At a young age his family moved
to Los Angeles where he grew up. Gethers attended three different
universities the University of California at Berkley, the
University of London (University College), and UCLA, where he dropped
out a few days before graduating.
In
1974, Gethers high-tailed it back to NYC as soon as possible, and
has lived there ever since, always below 14th Street.
During the last 25 years, he has also spent much time in France,
living in Paris and Provence. In 1980, Gethers was one of the original
founders of Rotisserie League Baseball helping to unleash
the nightmare of Fantasy Baseball on the world. Now, Gethers lives
on Washington Square and has houses in Sag Harbor and in the countryside
of Sicily, where he plans to spend as much time as possible writing
and eating.
