THE SMOKE JUMPER, my new book, is out in paperback now and I'm so glad you have come here to find out about it. Since THE SMOKE JUMPER was published in hardcover last fall I have been busy traveling around the world promoting it and now I'm home again and working on the next one, though I must admit I have taken some time off to play with my new baby son, Finlay.

During my travels I had the chance to meet a lot of readers at various events and it has been wonderful to hear their reaction to THE SMOKE JUMPER and to my other two books, THE HORSE WHISPERER and THE LOOP.

One of the highlights of my US publicity tour was a signing I did at the Smoke Jumper Center in Missoula, Montana, which figures in the story. So many people showed up, including a great many firefighters and their families. It was a lot of fun. During my research for the book, I got to know the Missoula smoke jumpers. They are fine people and true, real-life heroes. As we all know, they're having another devastating fire season in the West. My thoughts and prayers are with all the brave men and women who are out there risking their lives.
