Producers David Singer and Elizabeth
Ireland McCann are proud to present the New York premiere
of Mitch Albom's TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE, opening Off-Broadway
on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2002 at the Minetta Lane Theatre (18
Minetta Lane, just east of Sixth Avenue, one block south
of West Third Street). Preview performances begin Friday,
Nov. 1.
Co-authored by Jeffrey Hatcher (Three
Viewings) and directed by David Esbjornson (The
Goat or Who Is Sylvia?, My Old Lady), TUESDAYS WITH
MORRIE stars Alvin Epstein (original Lucky in
Waiting for Godot) as Morrie and Jon Tenney
(The Heiress) as Mitch.
A constant on The New York Times Bestseller
List for more than four years with more than five million
copies sold and an Emmy-winning television film presented
by Oprah Winfrey, TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE is the autobiographical
story of Mitch Albom, an accomplished journalist driven
solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college
professor.
Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens
to catch Morrie's appearance on a television news program
and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig's
Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie and what starts as
a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last
class in the meaning of life.
TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE features scenic
design by Robert Brill, costume design by Michael
Krass, lighting design by Brian MacDevitt and
sound design by John Kilgore. This stage adaptation
of TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE premiered in an acclaimed
production at New York Stage and Film in Poughkeepsie, New
York in Summer 2002.
