LEGAL DETAILS OF OUR CONTEST

1. Length of contest/How to enter

The The Eight contest starts on February 13 and ends at midnight, Eastern Daylight Savings Time, on April 1. Entries received after April 1 will not be eligible for a prize.

Entries that are late, lost, misdirected, garbled, or unintelligible for any reason, including but not limited to computer or network malfunction or congestion (including congestion at Random House), are not eligible. Random House, Inc. will not be responsible for technical failures of any kind and reserves the right to terminate this contest at any time.

2. Eligibility

The contest is open only to residents of the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and the State of Arizona (whose governments do not allow contests such as this one). You must be over eighteen years of age, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to enter. Employees and family members of employees of Random House, Inc., including its affiliates and subsidiaries, are not eligible to enter. This contest is subject to all federal, state, and local regulations. Offer void where restricted or prohibited. Random House, Inc. will not be responsible for payment of taxes on the value of any prize awarded.

No more than one entry per person, please. Multiple entries from the same person will be disqualified. More than one person from a household may enter, but only one prize will be awarded per household (to the person whose correct entry was received first.)

3. Prizes/odds of winning

The odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. The first ten entrants who submit correct lists of factual errors will win. Entries will be judged by Katherine Neville, the author. She will select ten winners based on the accuracy of their submitted error lists (or the first five items in said lists, should lists be longer than five items), as she shall judge in her sole opinion. The author's decisions will be final.

Prizes are copies of The Magic Circle by Katherine Neville, signed by the author. Prizes will be mailed to winners within 30 days of the contest entry deadline.

4. Notification of results

Notification will be by e-mail within 10 days of the contest entry deadline (April 1).

Only winners will be notified, and winners (including the parent or legal guardian of any winner under the age of eighteen) may be required to verify their address and/or to execute an affidavit of eligibility and release within fourteen (14) days of notification attempt.

Entries submitted without a valid e-mail address may be disqualified.

For a list of all winners, see the Web site, or send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Ellen Key Harris, The Ballantine Publishing Group, 201 East 50th Street, New York, NY 10022, no earlier than April 15, 1998.
