Why Another Diet Book?

In 1996, we wrote our first book, 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition, which for many made the 40-30-30 zone diet concept instantly comprehensible. Five years later we still get calls from doctors who want to know where they can find that book because it's the best way to explain 40-30-30 zone nutrition to their patients. Those same five years resulted in thousands of calls and letters. Clients have provided us with valuable information, success stories, and their favorite recipes, which we will share with you in The Formula.

The Formula takes 40-30-30 Fat Burning Nutrition to the next level. We've learned that dieters love plain language and want plenty of great recipes to choose from, including family style meals and kids' favorites, all of which you'll now find in The Formula. The Formula expands on what readers loved about our first book without losing any of its simplicity.

The Formula features our 21-Day Fat Flush Formula. We originally developed the 40-30-30 Fat Flush Plan for bodybuilders and other athletes who were in their final six-week phase of "cutting up" before their competition. It was so successful that we began using it with all of our clients. Fat loss on the 21-Day Fat Flush Formula is so dramatic that dieters often ask if they can stay on it indefinitely. The answer to that is yes. The Fat Flush Formula is actually the best lifetime choice for a diabetic or a person who is hypoglycemic (with the advice of his or her physician). However, after using the Fat Flush Formula for the first 21 days, most people can combine Fat Flush meals with Regular Formula meals for continued weight loss or maintenance. We refer to that as your Formula for Life.

Fat Flush Formula meals contain the 40-30-30 ratio of 40% of calories from carbohydrates, 30% from protein, and 30% from fat. They differ from our Regular Formula meals in that the 40% carbohydrates they contain are from medium- to low-glycemic carbohydrates, whereas Regular meals offer a greater variety of both low- and high-glycemic carbohydrates. Fat Flush Formula meals provide adequate carbohydrates for brain function, prevent the possibility of ketosis, and severely tighten the control of blood sugar levels. This formula is ideal for those giving up their high-protein diets or for dieters who want to jump-start The Formula and maximize fat burning.

The Fat Flush Formula is a complete, personalized, simple plan that balances body chemistry to its highest fat burning potential. Each meal and snack contains the 40-30-30 fat burning ratio. So while you're eating generous meals, you never feel sluggish or hungry afterward. Depending on the amount of weight you have to lose, you can stay on the Fat Flush Formula until all of your excess weight disappears, or just jump-start your first 21 days.

Unlike all other one-size-fits-all diet books, The Formula is different in that it provides a personalized nutrition program and offers five different personalized meal planners, one just right for your specific gender, weight, and activity level. The A, B, and C plans are typically used by women, the C, D, and E plans by men. The Meal Plan Selection Chart on page 63 will help you determine which plan is right for you based on your beginning weight. As the pounds burn off, you may need to adjust your meal quantities by using a different meal plan. A well-balanced eating plan should be shared by your entire family. We decided to write a personalized diet book, reflecting our combined experience of more than thirty years in weight loss and high-performance nutrition, and simply call it The Formula.
