Below are archived the classic months of the Red Hen Diner, when the place was filled with regulars...and filled with speculation about the fates of the people of Blackstone. From January to June of 1997, The Blackstone Chronicles was a work in progress and a mystery to be solved--and the Diner was ground zero for tantalized readers. John Saul stopped by on his way through town now and then, too--and even had a birthday party at the Diner! Now you, too, can be an electronic fly on the wall during those exciting Diner days. Velma the waitress greets you at the door in her usual way...
Welcome to the Red Hen Diner, where the food is really something to crow about. (I have to say that every time someone comes in, or else the manager gets huffy with me.) So come on in and shut the door, 'cause it's cold out there. Been a real chill over Blackstone for quite some time now.
Grab yourself a seat and I'll get you some coffee and pie--just out of the oven. I'm Velma, by the way. I'll be happy to take your order, but you're gonna have to speak up so's I can hear you over all this talking. Nobody comes in here for a quiet meal, I can tell you that.
But what can I say? Lately there's certainly been plenty to talk about. And between you and melet me tell you...Some of the things I've heard...Well...Never mind. But you strike up a chat with anyone in here, and I guarantee you'll hear a thing or two that'll give you chills even with the front door closed. You'll see.

Hey all! It's MONDAY!!! EEEEEKKK!!!! But hey, it's not THAT bad. I started a fitness program today, and it's going quite well. Wow. I don't have much to talk about tonight! Well, I'm just gonna sit and have my chocolate chip cheesecake. I'll be here if anyone wants to chat.
Hi,Im mad at my friend Jon.He said he was going to Chicago but I think he's lying. He probubly going to see his friends. And,It's wierd, all these girls like me.If ya got any info, please post it.
Hi, I have this problem. This kid I really like asked me out,and I really like him but my friends tell me that he asked someone else out and me.Also I kinda have this crush on this Ben kid.Should I go out with Ben or Jon.Please post what I should do.thanks
Hi,I am having a problem. You see, this kid I really like asked me out.His name is Jon,Oh Jon,whenever I even think about that name my heart goes full blast.Anyway,I like him a lot but my mom said I'm not ready yet.And also I kinda have this crush on Ben D.If anyone has some advice, plaese post it.
I just got back from a hunting safarri in Africa and my girlfriend left me for that wierdo Ben Dover, and my friend Ben is mad at me because I told him I was going to Chicago and he thinks I lied so I wouldn't have to go to his house so he is mad.So if anyone can give me some advice on what to do, and help me to decide if I should ask my friend Tam out or Krystal the one I always dance with out, plese tell us.
Earlier I noticed that someone wanted to know the address for the x-games web sight and I would like to know it also.So if anyone knows it will you please post it.THANK YOU!!
Charlene, I'd like a chicken salad sandwich on wheat toast and a slice of apple pie to go, thanks. I'm gonna head up to the B&B a little earlier than usual. I don't want to be out and about with all of these goblins runnin' loose. First, we have somebody pretending to be Johnnie, next we have Blackstone's version of Laurel and Hardy!! I think I'm gonna go hide my head under the covers but before I do, I need some nourishment. The food at the B&B doesn't compare to yours Charlene. I made sure I stopped by the General Store and replenished my supply of garlic. I think I'm gonna drape it around my bedposts just in case. Please tell Oh-Carol I intend to keep my Army gear handy you never know when the trumpet will sound. Well, I gotta get goin' before some of those looney tunes follow me up there. I'll see ya tomorrow.
It seems to me that the only thing good about this diner is the gossip. THe food sure leaves something to be desired. Hope everything is going okay for y'all.
Wasn't even a very good imposter was it Lee? Ah well, evening all. Charlene, in honour of the real JS may I please have a slice of pecan pie and a coffee?
I am watching! I, and I alone, shall choose who becomes the next victim of the asylum! Ah ha ha ha ha!!! Beware of strange figures bearing gifts! And don't touch my building, or be sure of certain doom! I choose... You!
Hi ya Charlene and family! I just saw a guy runnin' down the street towards North hill. He was tellin' everyone he passed that he was J.S. I hope he didn't confuse anyone. Those of us who have lived in Blackstone for the last six months KNOW he has a DISTINCTIVE ADDRESS AND STYLE so DON"T BE FOOLED BY IMPOSTERS!!!! I hope that guy go back to the Asylum where he or sh belongs. I'll stop by later foe a night cap. I got some errands to run in Conger's point. Ciao.
Morning everyone! I kinda have to agree about "JS's" posting....I have never seen John come into the diner without ordering a slice of pecan pie!! His book was originally schelduled for release in July, but Carol is right. The Presence is due to hit the shelves on August 11. Well, one thing is for sure, even in cyberspace John Saul fans can spot what is and what isnt his style!! Well, Charlene, could I get the breakfast special to go? Gotta get to work at the Chronicle. See you all later!!
Good Morning Velma, Charlene. May I please have a coffee and a danish? Donna, Ernie.....if you read that comment posted in JS's name it really doesn't sound like JS at all. I've only been at the diner for two of his visits but that sure didn't seem like his style. Look at the address. Also, JS's new book is schedued for release August 11, isn't it? No time for a second cup, Charlene but I'll drop back later. We're enjoying a long holiday weekend in Canada (Canada day - July 01) so there's a lot of activity at home. See you all later.
You know Ernie, I think you may be right!!
I dunno'...Looking at that message and its placement, was that really Mr. Saul, or just those persky...um...spirits...looking for attention?
Hi everybody! Wow, I'm sorry that I missed John Saul! : ( Jubilee, I have saved the e-mail that he sent me & am going to frame it!! I have only written him once, I still can't get over the fact that he responded himself & in only 3 days!!! Carol, no problem! I thought that it might be interesting to see the difference between my Husbands' chart & his brothers'. Suz, I hope your sunburn heals quickly!!!
Hi Charlene- Just stopped in for a slice of pie and a cup of coffee before calling it a night. Sure hope things settle down in here. Seems after this ghost hunt we had, many new spirits are within our midst!! I had a pretty goos day today. Got fried in the sun and now Im in a little pain *wincing*! JUBILEE- John is very good about responding to email! I remember the first time I recieved a letter from him, I thought it was the collest thing in the wolrd!! I was flying high for a long time on that one. Now its like getting mail from al old pal when he writes. It is very exciting..I know what you mean about it being so neat!! Well Charlen...the coffe is wonderful as usual. Gonna go drift into dreamland.
NO,Not Stan Dupp....It's "Sit Down" and Shut Up or maybe "Get Lost"!!!
It sure wasn't nice of JS to stop in here!
