May I Interview You? I am Jane Isay, author of Walking on Eggshells: Navigating the Delicate Relationship between Adult Children and Parents. The book is based on interviews with over 70 parents and adult children. My next book, Unfinished Business: Staying Close to your Adult Siblings, explores the sometimes close, sometimes tenuous relationships between brothers and sisters throughout adulthood. I plan to interview about 70 people, members of large families and small ones. I hope to find people in all age brackets from the 30’s through the 80’s, married, divorced, some whose parents are still alive, and some whose parents have died. I hope to interview brothers and sisters from the same family, for their differing perspectives. I want to understand the dynamics of close and relaxed relationships; what happens when siblings fall out; what brings them back together; and if things change after the death of the second parent. What about values differences between brothers and sisters, and spouses who don’t fit in? Are the dynamics different in large families? And how to only children believe their lives would be different if only they had siblings? I hope to interview people from small towns and big cities. Interviews can be done in person and by telephone. The interviews are confidential, and if I use your story in the book, I will change names and places, to preserve privacy. The interviews are taped and last about 90 minutes at most. If you would like to be interviewed, please email me at janeisay@janeisay.com or send a letter to 49 East 96th Street, New York, NY 10128. Be sure to include the following information in your note to me: Name Thank you very much. |
