I just wanted to let you know your book could not have come at a better time. I am a 53-year-old mother of a 29-year-old, single, (only child) son, who announced 2 weeks ago that he needs to "distance" himself from me and his stepfather. A lot of his "distancing" has to do with his feelings of resentment that have now surfaced regarding my divorce and the lengthy, custody battle over him when he was a child. He also recently was laid off from work due to the economy and says he needs to figure out his life with no interference from us. So, we haven't heard from him and he didn't return our calls.

Needless to say, on page 39 of your book referring to "distancing: our children’s ultimate weapon" really struck home. The book is helping guide me through this situation and has helped me to see that as an adult child he is entitled to his decision even though the mother in me wants to barrage him with pleading calls and letters. Of course, I am heartbroken and pray he will find his way home.

When I went to the bookstore yesterday and asked for the book the clerk said "What's with this book? Was it on Oprah or something? You're the 6th one in here today asking for it!" Luckily, I got the last copy.
