The DaVinci Code Contest

Official Rules and Regulations:
Contest runs from 12:00:01 A.M. ET on November 3, 2003 to 11:59:59 P.M. Pacific Time on January 5, 2004.

I. WHO MAY ENTER
This Contest is open only to legal residents of the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and Florida, who are age 18 and over as of November 3, 2003, who have access to a computer and the Internet. All federal, state and local regulations apply. Void wherever prohibited or restricted by law. Employees of Random House, Inc. and its parent company, assigns, subsidiaries or affiliates, and their immediate families and persons living in their household are not eligible to participate in this contest.

II. HOW TO ENTER
To enter, visit www.davincicode.com and click “Uncover the Code”. Follow the clues to solving the hidden codes in the jacket of The DaVinci Code which is displayed and can be printed from the website. If you can find and solve the codes, you will be given a chance to enter a drawing to win a prize. When your entry (including your name, address and age) is complete, click the area marked “Submit Entry” (once submitted, entry cannot be deleted, cancelled or modified). All those entrants who have successfully solved the codes will be entered into a raffle. Dan Brown will randomly pick one Grand Prize winner and ten First Prize winners from all correct entriesand announce the Grand Prize winner on Good Morning America. LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. If multiple entries are received from any person in violation of these rules, all such entries will be disqualified. All entries must be received by 11:59P.M. Pacific Time on January 5, 2004. In the event of a dispute about entries submitted by multiple individuals using the same e-mail account, entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized subscriber of the e-mail account used to enter the contest at the actual time of entry. The authorized e-mail account subscriber is deemed to be the natural person who is assigned an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses or the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. Entries generated by script, macro, robotic, programmed, or any other automated means are prohibited and will be disqualified.

III. PRIZES AND ODDS OF WINNING
Winners will be selected on or about January 12, 2004, by random drawing from all entries received which have solved the “Under the Code” contest. GRAND PRIZE (1): A trip for two (2) to Paris. Trip includes round-trip coach air transportation for two (2) people from a major commercial airport near winner’s home to Paris; three (3) nights’ lodging (standard accommodations, double occupancy), transfer to and from the airport in Paris and $500 spending money. Approximate Retail Value (ARV): $4,500. ARV of prize package may vary, depending on the point of departure. Important Notice: Trip must be completed by February 1, 2005. Travel dates are subject to availability; blackout dates and restrictions apply. Travel dates will be chosen by Sponsor in consultation with Winner and all travel arrangements must be made by and confirmed through a travel agent selected by Sponsor. If winner and guest cannot travel by the dates specified by the Sponsor, the prize will be forfeited in its entirety and an alternate Winner will be chosen. It is the responsibility of the winner and guest to each obtain a valid current U.S. passport and any other required travel documents. Winner will be responsible for all gratuities, meals, ground transportation, and any other incidental costs or expenses not identified in these rules. Travel and use of accommodation are at risk of Winner and Random House Inc. does not assume any liability. First Prize (10): A first edition of Dan Brown’s next book signed by Dan Brown. ARV $30.00; ARV of all prizes: $4,800. The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of correct entries received. All prizes will be awarded assuming sufficient eligible entries are received. Entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules.

IV. GENERAL CONDITIONS
Winners will be notified by mail and may be required to sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Releases of Publicity and Liability within seven (7) days of notification. Grand Prize winner’s guest must be at least 18 years old and will also be required to sign and return Releases of Liability/Publicity prior to travel. In the event of noncompliance, if a winner cannot be reached at the e-mail or mailing address on that winner’s entry, or if a prize or prize notification is returned as unclaimed or is undeliverable for whatever reason beyond the control of Sponsor, that prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected. No substitution of any prizes will be offered. No prize transfer permitted. If a prize is unavailable, Sponsor reserves the sole right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. Limit one prize per individual, family, or household address. All taxes, fees, and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prizewinners. By participating and accepting a prize each winner grants to Sponsor (and agrees to confirm that grant in writing), OneTravel.com and those acting pursuant to the authority of Sponsor, the right to print, publish, broadcast, and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter developed, including, but not limited to, the World Wide Web, at any time(s), the winner’s name, portrait, picture, voice, likeness, and biographical information as news or information and for advertising and promotional purposes without additional compensation or review (except where prohibited by law). Other entry names may be used for subsequent mail/email promotions.

V. RELEASE OF LIABILITY
All entrants agree to hold harmless and release Random House, OneTravel.com, its parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, agents, and employees and all others associated with the development and execution of this contest from any and all liability with respect to or in any way arising from this contest, participation in any contest-related activity and/or delivery/misdelivery, acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of prize, including, but not limited to, liability for personal injury, bodily injury, including wrongful death or disability; damage to property; and damage or loss of any other kind. Sponsor is not responsible for prize quality or utility. Sponsor is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Web-site users, by any of the equipment or programming associated with or used in the contest, or by any technical or human error that may occur in the processing of submissions in the sweepstakes. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error; omission; interruption; deletion; defect; delay in operation or transmission; communications-line failure; or the theft destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines; computer online systems, servers, or providers; computer equipment or software; or failure of e-mail or entry on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site or combination thereof, including injury or damage to the participant’s or to any person’s computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials from this Web site or contest. Sponsor is not responsible for user cheating or fraud by any entrants. Any activities intended to disrupt or interfere with the proper play of the contest or defraud Sponsor in any way will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Participants who engage in any of the foregoing activities will be disqualified and will forfeit any prizes won. If, for any reason, the contest is not capable of running as planned due to, but without limitation, infection by computer virus, worm, or bugs; tampering, unauthorized intervention; fraud; technical failures; or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor that, in the sole opinion of Sponsor, could corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this contest, Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the contest.

VI. WINNERS LIST
For the names of the Grand and First Prize winners, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to Uncover the Code Contest, c/o Doubleday Marketing, 22-3,, 1745 Broadway, New York, NY 10019 by March31, 2004. Washington and Vermont residents may omit return postage.
