DEL REY MANGA NEWSLETTER — JULY 2009
Woohoo! School's out for the summer, and if you're not a student, but working that nine to five, then it's about time you took a vacation. The days are getting longer and what better way to use all the extra light from the sun than to read some excellent manga (Del Rey or that other stuff if you must) while getting your tan on. Please remember sunscreen because the sun is a giant fireball that shows no mercy on sensitive skin. We've got some great new titles hitting bookstores and hope you'll enjoy reading them as much as we do.

THE EISNERS
The Eisners are like the "Academy Awards" of comics, and they are awarded each year in a ceremony at San Diego Comic-Con. Our own Tricia Narwani wrote a very interesting piece about the Eisners and manga on suvudu.com, Random House's awesome scif-fi/fantasy blog. Tricia takes you through this year's nominees for the Best U.S. Edition of International Material — Japan category where you'll find some highly recommended reading. Check it out here.
AMEFURASHI: THE RAIN GODDESS CONTEST
Goddesses are supposed to be wise right? Well meet Sora, the Amefurashi (rain goddess) who's imperious and powerful, but not exactly wise. Sora and her sacred nimbus tree control the fate of a small desert town that gives offerings in exchange for rain.
Things get tricky when Gimmy, an inventive teen, goes looking in the nimbus tree for his missing younger brother and sister. Sora does not take kindly to intruders, or "pests" as she considers them, and Gimmy discovers that an irritable rain goddess is a problem without a solution. Will Gimmy find his siblings or will he find that Sora is more than he can handle?
Send us an email and you could be among the first to get a copy of this book for free. Please make sure to let us know what you think after giving it a good read.
