This February Nancy Alden offers some advice from her book Simply Pearls:

“Pearls can be either the frame for the centerpiece or the centerpiece itself. Large pearls beg to be at center stage, but in a good design, you can also effectively use a cluster of little pearls or even a single medium-size pearl. Be sure to use a high-quality pearl large enough to stand out from the surrounding gemstones, the quality of which should match, but not exceed, that of the pearl.”
