interview

Bold Type first featured Arthur Bradford back in December of 1997 and proclaimed him a young writer to watch. His entertaining short stories are full of eccentric characters and even stranger premises. They maintain an almost childlike sense of wonder while managing to still be edgy. Arthur's debut story collection, Dogwalker, has just been published and the stories all share a common thread -- utter fascination with the weird and the canine. In addition to writing hilarious short stories, Arthur is also the creator and director of How's Your News?, a traveling news show produced by the denizens of Camp Jabberwocky, the oldest camp for adults with disabilities in the country. HBO will begin airing How's Your News? in April 2002.

Arthur combines a guileless sense of humor and tremendous empathy, and his stories are a sheer delight to read. In this issue of Bold Type you'll find "Roslyn's Dog", a short story from Dogwalker, as well as an exclusive audio reading by the author of his short story, "Mutants". Also, check out Bold Type's "Writers to Watch" feature on Arthur from December 1997.
