Animal Husbandry: an excerpt

Laura Zigman's highly-anticipated first novel, Animal Husbandry, brings that beloved literary subject -- the dumped woman -- into the nineties. Jane Goodall is a career-woman facing the possibility that she may never find Someone. Goodall works to exorcise a painful relationship with witty attacks on male "mating behavior" under a journalistic pseudonym. Humor propels the novel to a serious conclusion that leaves Jane Goodall somewhere between Emma Woodhouse and Emma Bovary.

For this issue of Bold Type, we sat down with the author to ask her a few questions about men and mating, while an excerpt from Animal Husbandry explains the Multiple Cow Theory.
