COPYRIGHTS AND PERMISSIONS
Welcome to the Random House Copyrights & Permissions Web Page.
All of the material published by Random House and its divisions is protected
under copyright law. Written permission from the publisher is required
if you wish to reproduce our material.
All requests directed to Random House, Inc. must be made in writing. (See below for
instructions on how to submit requests for academic photocopying of materials
for U.S. colleges and universities.) It is not our policy to grant verbal
permissions and, at this time, Random House is not accepting permissions
requests via e-mail.
What should you include in your permission request?
Your request should be as complete
as possible. Please include the title and author of the book you wish to
reprint from and the imprint (Random House, Knopf, Broadway, Dell, etc.).
It would be helpful to include the ISBN as well. We will need to know the
exact material you wish to reprint. Please provide copies of our material
in context as well as the page numbers on which the material appears in
our book.
We also need to know the title and publisher of your book, the proposed
date of publication, the price and print run. Please let us know what territories
you need permission for (US, US and Canada, world, etc.). You may include
any other information that you feel may be helpful in evaluating your request.
For photocopy requests, please indicate which pages from our book you would
like to copy and how many copies you would like to make.
Incomplete requests
will not be processed and will be returned to the requester for more information.
How long does it take to process a permission request?
It will take approximately 3 to
5 weeks for you to receive a written response to your request. This time
frame may vary depending on the amount of requests we have to process. Therefore,
we ask you to submit your request for permission as early in your editorial
process as possible. You may follow-up on your requests no sooner than 3
weeks after our receipt of your request.
Will there be a fee?
Each request received by the department is evaluated on an individual basis and in most cases a permission fee is
charged. No fees will be discussed prior to permission being granted.
