Slaughter Debuts with Two New York Times Bestsellers
Karin Slaughter is back with two heart-stopping suspense novels, Beyond Reach and Triptych, that landed her the #6 hardcover and #12 paperback spots respectively on the August 19th New York Times bestseller list. Still going strong on the list is Danielle Steel’s hardcover novel Bungalow 2, that takes us beyond the flash and glitter of Hollywood and Robert Ludlum’s paperback, Bourne Ultimatum, that is currently a Hollywood box office hit!
The World Fantasy Awards: Four Spectra Nominees
The World Fantasy Awards shortlist has been announced, and Bantam Spectra has three nominees in the category for Best Novel! Congratulations to Ellen Kushner for The Privilege of the Sword, Scott Lynch for The Lies of Locke Lamora and Catherynne M. Valente for The Orphan’s Tales: In the Night Garden.
Also, the editor of our anthology Logorrhea: Good Words Make Good Stories, John Klima, is on the shortlist for the Special Award, Non-Professional for his work editing the independent genre ‘zine Electric Velocipede. Winners will be announced in November at the World Fantasy Convention in New York.
Three Spectra titles nominated for British Fantasy Awards
The shortlist for the British Fantasy Society Award for Best Novel, also known as the August Derleth Award, has been announced, and Bantam Spectra has three nominees on the list! Congratulations to nominees M. John Harrison author of Nova Swing, Scott Lynch author of The Lies of Locke Lamora, and Dusk author Tim Lebbon. The winners will be announced at Fantasycon in late September.
Ship of Ghosts Honored with 2007 United States Maritime Literature Award
Congratulations to James D. Hornfischer whose book, Ship of Ghosts: The Story of the USS Houston, FDR’s Legendary Lost Cruiser, and the Epic Saga of Her Survivors, has been selected as a 2007 United States Maritime Literature Award winner. The annual award, founded by Captains Stephen J. Deatherage and Richard Lamb, promotes maritime writers and encourages future historians to preserve our maritime history through literature.
