The Bee’s Kiss Nominated for 2007 Macavity Mystery Award
Barbara Cleverly’s The Bee’s Kiss is nominated for a Macavity Mystery Award for Best Historical Mystery. The Macavity Mystery Award, named for the “mystery cat” of T.S. Eliot, are nominated and voted on by members of Mystery Readers International. Winners will be announced at Bouchercon at the end of September.
The Privilege of the Sword wins Best Fantasy Novel Award
Congratulations to Ellen Kushner, author of the novel The Privilege of the Sword, on winning the 2007 Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel. The Locus Awards are the largest popular awards in the science fiction field. The Privilege of the Sword, published by Bantam Spectra, is currently on sale in paperback.
Grand Prize Winner Announced for First Annual “Bantam Classic Shakespeare Scholar” Essay Contest
We’re proud to announce Takako Kobayashi as the grand prize winner of the first annual “Bantam Classic Shakespeare Scholar” Essay Contest for High School Students. Kobayashi’s winning essay discussed the emotional and physical journey of the Earl of Gloucester in Shakespeare’s play King Lear. Kobayashi was awarded a $2,500 scholarship and two sets of a 100-copy Bantam Classic library, including all 22 Shakespeare editions. The two first prize winners were Kevin Tieu and Reem Nasr. Dean Koontz’s The Good Guy debuted as the #3 hardcover on the New York Times Bestseller list with his thriller The Husband remaining in the top 5 after three weeks in the #1 slot. Two Bantam Spectra titles named as finalists for John W. Campbell Memorial Award
M. John Harrison’s Nova Swing and Justina Robson’s Living Next Door to the God of Love were each nominated as finalists for the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for the Best Science Fiction Novel of the year. The award will be presented at the Campbell Conference in early July.
