Mister Pip wins Commonwealth Prize
Congratulations to Lloyd Jones, author of the novel Mister Pip, on winning the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize in the Overall Best Book category. Jones is the first New Zealand writer to win the award since 1989. The annual Commonwealth Writers’ Prize is designed to promote English language fiction to a global audience. M. John Harrison nabs top honors
Nova Swing by M. John Harrison was recently awarded the 2007 Arthur C. Clarke Award for Best Science Fiction novel of the year. The Award is the UK’s premier prize for science fiction literature. The book will be published by Bantam Spectra in the Fall. It continues the story begun in his novel Light, also available from Spectra.

Naomi Hirahara’s Snakeskin Shamisen was named the winner for Best Paperback Original mystery novel at the 2007 Edgar Awards. Naomi Hirahara’s novel features one of mystery fiction’s most unique heroes: Mas Arai, a curmudgeonly L.A. gardener, Hiroshima survivor, and inveterate gambler. The Edgar Allan Poe Awards (popularly called the Edgars) are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America.
