Tundra writer and illustrator Mireille Levert was born in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. By age twelve, Levert decided to be an artist. She received her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal, and later continued to study to be an art teacher. Her artistic career has taken many turns. Levert has been a painter, a teacher of batik, an assistant bookseller, and a window dresser. Since 1975, she has illustrated children’s books and magazine articles.
