John Bierman and Colin Smith are veteran news correspondents, both with firsthand knowledge of the locations mentioned in this book: Sudan, Israel, Ethiopia, India, and Burma. Both men currently live in Cyprus, now quiescent but one of the many late-twentieth-century trouble spots on which they have reported as roving correspondents--Bierman for the BBC and Smith for The Observer.
