About the Author

Anna Winestein is an art and theater historian, a curator, and an arts administrator. She is executive director of the Ballets Russes Cultural Partnership and co-directed the Ballets Russes 2009 festival with Peter Rand. She is also a doctoral candidate at Oxford University. Ms. Winestein has curated several international exhibitions accompanied by catalogs, notably “Dreamer and Showman: The Magical Reality of Alexandre Benois” at the Boston Public Library and “Danser Vers la Gloire: L’Age d’Or des Ballets Russes” for Sotheby’s in Paris. She is the translator of Alexandre Tcherepnin: The Saga of a Russian Émigré Composer, and editor or co-editor of several forthcoming volumes, including The Letters of Mark Antokolsky to Alexandra van der Hoeven 1886–1898. A former Fulbright Scholar in cultural economics, she holds a Masters in economics, as well as a professional degree in painting. Alongside her academic research focus on Russian and European visual art, Ms. Winestein has a deep interest for strategic cultural policy and contemporary museum practice in an applied setting.
