Rebecca Stead's <em>When You Reach Me</em> won the ceremony's highest honor, the Newbery Medal.  The Newbery Honor book category includes <em>The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg</em> by Rodman Philbrick and Grace Lin's download-only title, <em>Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.</em> The Gemma Doyle Trilogy author, Libba Bray was awarded the 2010 Michael L. Printz Award for <em>Going Bovine.</em>  <em>Charles and Emma: The Darwins' Leap of Faith</em> by Deborah Heiligman, available as a download only from Listening Library, won the YALSA Excellence Award in Nonfiction, a brand-new honor. <em>Marcelo in the Real World</em> by Francisco X. Stork was given the Schneider Family Book Award and the Pura Belpr&eacute; Author Award went to Julia Alvarez for <em>Return to Sender.</em> Lastly, Walter Dean Myers was awarded the Coretta Scott King&ndash;Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement.</p>

In announcing the nomination, the APA noted that "Narrator Gerard Doyle's masterful performance encompassed everything from people of all ages and genders to fantastic beasts with magical powers, demonstrating his own magical gifts in the process." The Audie Awards will be announced on May 29, 2009, at the New-York Historical Society in New York City.</p>
