Edward Morgan Forster was born in 1879 of mixed English and Welsh ancestry. His writing is known for its constant attention to moral, ethical, and human values, as well as its convincing evocations of England, Italy, Egypt, and India in the twentieth century. He died in 1970. Among his other books are Howard's End, Where Angels Fear to Tread and The Longest Journey.
