James Tait Black Prizes shortlist

The shortlist for the 2013 James Tait Black Prizes, the UK's oldest literary prize, has been announced. Given annually to one work of fiction and one biography the list includes: Harvest by Jim Crace, Benediction by Kent Haruf, and All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld for fiction; Empress Dowager Cixi: The Concubine who Launched Modern China by Jung Chang and Penelope Fitzgerald: A life by Hermione Lee for biography. Each category winner will receive a £10,000 prize
