Drew Gilpin Faust Delivers Jefferson Lecture in Humanities

This Republic of Suffering

Drew Gilpin Faust, author of This Republic of Suffering, delivered her lecture, "Telling War Stories: Reflections of a Civil War Historian," at the National Endowment for the Humanities 40th Jefferson Lecture on Monday, May 2, 2011, at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The Jefferson Lecture carries a $10,000 honorarium and is the federal government's most prestigious honor for scholars in the humanities. Past Jefferson Lecturers include John Updike, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Bernard Bailyn, Toni Morrison, James McPherson, and Barbara Tuchman.
