PEN/Faulkner Shortlist

A Gate at the Stairs

Lorrie Moore's acclaimed novel of the tensions of family and race, A Gate at the Stairs (Knopf), and Colson Whitehead's warm, funny, and supremely original new novel Sag Harbor (Doubleday), which follows 15-year old Benji Cooper through a summer spent in eastern Long Island, have both been shortlisted for the PEN/Faulkner award.
