Jim Shepard has won The Story Prize for his book, Like You'd Understand, Anyway (Knopf). The award, which comes with a cash prize of $20,000, honors the best book of short fiction published during a calendar year. The Stories of Mary Gordon (Anchor) won in 2006, and The Dew Breaker (Vintage) by Edwidge Danticat won in 2004.
