Jill Ciment's The Tattoo Artist has won the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for 2005. The award recognizes the best work of fiction by a woman and is given annually by the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender and Women's Studies and the Department of English at the University of Rochester.
