
David Bodanis' Electric Universe: How Electricity Switched on the Modern World has won the 2006 Aventis General Prize, which celebrates the very best in popular science writing for adult readers. Since its founding in 1988, the prize has become one of the UK's most prestigious non-fiction literary prizes.
Parallel Worlds by Michio Kaku was also shortlisted for this year's prize. Previous winners have included Stephen Hawking, Stephen J. Gould and Bill Bryson.
