CHALLENGES
by Colleen Masterson
This season everyone on my club volleyball team has had injuries, except for two people. A team is a group of people with a similar passion. Some teams come together only on the court/field, but others, like the one I'm on, work together in our daily lives. This year has been tough. We have had to work through injuries, coaches, and other problems.
Our best person has been hurt twice, and we have had to have people fill in for each other. Nevertheless, we have surpassed our problems and become a solid team.
Besides our injury issue we have had coaching problems. We had this coach at the beginning of the year that was the best. He was very open with us and also taught us a lot. When we found out that he couldn't be our coach anymore we cried. We cried as a team, not individuals. Coach Fenton had showed us how to come together in sad times, but also showed us how to pull through and move on.
Even though this has been a hard, crazy event, it has been a life lesson. The lesson is: if you need to get through a tough time not to do it alone. It helps to talk about it with people and get over it quicker.
"Masterson truly knows the makings of a good team. This should be required reading for every athlete!" Mike Ditka, former coach of the Chicago Bears
